A longing and nostalgia for something familiar to me, that I felt when I immigrated into a far and exotic country.
Lingering tracks and legacies, such as pots, stone walls, a kitchen in the rural house that I left behind my mother land.
Friendly and familiar sounds of puppies and bulls seen in every yard of rural houses.
Roofing tile, earthen ware, ceramic ware, stone sculpture, temple bell which were made by self-confident artisans.
All of these are a part of memories and an object of longing that everyone born in Korea can be reminded of and long for.
I came to realize our dreams are open to the past, not alone the future.
Life - Life Space
Empty earth….
The earth is empty but completely full, at the same time.
The earth is a life space and habitat where everyone can live.
On this earth, all people can reap just as they sow.
A large land that allows our beings to depend on and embrace, to an indefinite extent.
The one that is as warm as mothers' bosoms are the very earth we live on.
Where the sky and earth exist, human beings exist, as well.
The earth we stand on, is therefore the sky and human beings itself.
The land does not tell a lie. This never lies to anyone.
If we put our heart and soul into it, the land rewards.
If we carelessly sow a seed in a dry and barren land, the earth or land spits it out.
If we sow a seed, with care and love, and have a room for the land to accept it, the land starts to embrace the seed, at last.
And, the earth animates its energy along with sunlights and winds and then makes something to eat and offers it to us.
The earth embraces everything in the world. However if we don't pour sweats and efforts to take care of it, the earth does not try to make or produce anything.
The earth always lives up to the spirits and providence of the universe.
I painted a ground like a life for human beings, in a canvas, to have a self-reflection of the basic essence of life.
